Intent

At our school, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels safe, happy, valued and able to achieve their full potential. We believe that all pupils have the right to learn in an environment free from bullying, discrimination and intimidation.

We aim to foster a culture where positive relationships are promoted, differences are celebrated and pupils are empowered to speak up if they have concerns. Through our preventative approach, we help children develop the knowledge, understanding and confidence to recognise bullying behaviours, understand their impact and know how to seek support for themselves or others.

We are proud to use the internationally recognised KiVa Anti-Bullying Programme, an evidence-based programme designed to prevent bullying and effectively address incidents when they occur. Through KiVa, we encourage all pupils to play an active role in creating a safe, inclusive and supportive school community.

Implementation

Anti-bullying education is delivered through the KiVa programme alongside our wider PSHE, RSHE and safeguarding curriculum. KiVa provides a structured, age-appropriate approach that focuses on preventing bullying through education, awareness and positive peer relationships.

Through regular KiVa lessons and activities, pupils learn:

• What bullying is and how it differs from occasional friendship difficulties or conflict.

• The different forms bullying can take, including verbal, physical, social and online bullying.

• The impact bullying can have on individuals and the wider school community.

• The importance of empathy, inclusion and respect for others.

• How to respond safely and effectively if they experience or witness bullying.

• The role of bystanders and how they can help prevent bullying behaviour.

The principles of KiVa are embedded throughout school life through:

• Consistent behaviour expectations and positive relationships.

• PSHE and RSHE lessons.

• Online safety education.

• Assemblies and themed awareness events, including Anti-Bullying Week.

• Opportunities for pupil voice and leadership.

• Strong partnerships between school, pupils and families.

Where concerns arise, trained staff follow clear procedures to investigate, support and resolve incidents. The KiVa approach focuses on addressing behaviour, supporting all pupils involved and restoring positive relationships wherever possible.

We are also proud to have achieved recognition as an International Cross of Nails School for our work promoting peace, reconciliation and positive relationships within our community.

Impact

The impact of our anti-bullying work is seen in the positive culture that exists across our school. Pupils report feeling safe, supported and confident that any concerns will be listened to and acted upon.

Children develop a strong understanding of:

• How to recognise bullying behaviours.

• The importance of kindness, empathy and inclusion.

• How to keep themselves and others safe.

• How and when to seek support from trusted adults.

• Their role in creating a positive and respectful school environment.

Pupils demonstrate positive relationships, increased confidence in managing social situations and a willingness to support their peers. They understand that bullying is unacceptable and are equipped with strategies to respond appropriately if concerns arise.

As a result, our school maintains a strong anti-bullying culture where children feel a sense of belonging, wellbeing is prioritised and pupils are able to learn and flourish in a safe and supportive environment.
